October 24, 1985, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - Boy, does this make me feel old. Nothing shows the progress of technology better than looking at what was new and innovative a few years earlier. In this case, we're looking at the state of microtechnology in consumer products back in 1985. At the time I did this story, I was utterly amazed at how small and powerful handheld TVs, computers, disc players and other "tech toys" had become. Certainly this was the future -- and then the future came and turned 1985 technology into antiquated, quaint, museum relics. Is that a cassette player and Beta videotape I see? Did I actually own a lot of this stuff? Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal video collection.
