Ringo Starr's first album release on the Mercury label. Credited to Ringo Starr Produced by Mark Hudson and Ringo Starr. Engineered by Geoff Emerick. The title "Vertical Man" actually came from a quotation from a book that Ringo's stepdaughter Francesca had won at school. The full quote was, Let's hear it for the vertical man, there's always so much praise for the horizontal one. Recorded at WHATINTHEWHATHE? studios, A & M studios and the Village Recorders LA And in England at The Mill, FPSHOT, Air London, Abbey Road, and Sarm Hook End Studios. Recording took place gradually from February 1997 to February 1998, and once again Ringo managed to get together some great guest performers, who are listed in the track list detail below. Although the final mixing was done on 19th February, Tom Petty had to re-record his vocal part for "Drift Away". This vocal was actually put on tape at Abbey Road on 2nd May, whilst Tom was singing in LA, with the recording sent down an ISDN line. As well as the 13 tracks issued below, four others were recorded which were planned for single B-sides : "Sometimes", "Mr. Doubleitup", "Everyday", and "Good News". Even though Ringo carries out a hectic promotion schedule, the CD fails to chart (actually reaching no.85 on it's first week of release) and sells barely over 2000 copies in the UK Mercury even pull the plug on the planned single release, which was to be "La De Da", even though the video was included on the "Chart Show" on 4th July. Of the eighteen songs originally recorded that night, only "Graveyard of Losers" found it's way onto the B side of "The Meltdown" in April 1979. "The Shah is Gone" got it's share of immediate radio airplay, and notoriety, but was never commercially released. The session tape then languished in the storage can until producer Bob Greenlee resurrected it in 1987. Eleven of the tracks were released on an album entitled "Left for Dead" on Greenlee's King Snake Records label. Yet, it would be another quarter century until the session tape would merit a re release on compact disc. Only days ago, "Left for Dead" resurfaced on CD courtesy of Rip Bang Records. It includes two welcome bonus tracks; "The Shah is Gone", and "Space Ship Boogie". As fate would have it, four songs still remain unreleased, and as I see no prospects of the songs ever being included elsewhere.... I present them to you in this way. Attention all K-Mart shoppers ! In 1970 Tutti Camarata produced an album "Tutti's Trombones" intended to exploit to the utmost the "great unexplored possibilities of the trombone". Picking some of the finest session and jazz trombone players in the United States the album became (at least for my generation) the gold standard of trombone playing and an iconic recording. Recorded at Camarata's own Sunset Sound Recorders studio in Hollywood, California he produced, arranged and conducted all the tracks and utilised state of the art recording equipment to achieve an absolutely superb landmark album. Track 4 (Theme from The Pink Panther) featured the fabulous bass trombonist Kenny Shroyer in the opening theme followed by a solo jazz trombonist Dick Nash with Tommy Pederson on lead trombone in the ensemble. The album was re-mastered and re-released on CD in 1983 by Bainbridge Entertainment Co. (from which this recording is taken) based in Van Nuys, California. No copyright is claimed for this recording and no violation of ownership intended. The original LP is really difficult to find but I believe there are a few copies of the 1983 CD still available. Try to get one as the quality is superb and you'll never tire of listening to it! Originally released on Buena Vista Records STER-4048. South Republic Home Investigation

On January 22, 2012 I found my way to my friend Robert's home in South Republic. Armed with 2 digital recorders, a still camera, hard drive video camera and a CD with white noise. As I did my walkthrough and taking stills, it was very cold in the house. But even with the cold, I felt a sense of warmth. That was my physical observation. I then proceeded to set up. Putting one digital recorder at the top of the stairs and the other in his parents' room. I hit record on both and left. Both recorders obtained over 23 hours each. All analyzing was done by me. No other parties were involved in the analyzing process. I put each noise in a separate track according to what I think I was hearing. They are amplified by 30. After analyzing over 20 hours on the second recorder, I came up with nothing creditable. A few of the sounds I could connect with what I heard on the first recorder that was located downstairs in the parents' bedroom. Keep in mind that no one has lived in the house for some time. There are no running utilities. I stress using a good set of headphones or ear buds while listening. Each clip is either played only once or looped up to 4 times. Volumes may vary. As for my opinion on the house, I do believe there are presences still lurking. I believe there is more than one entity residing there. I believe there is at least one male and female. Oboist Brenda Schuman-Post with The Kiagata Musicians and Sixtus Koromba Tube. Duration : 5.60 Mins.
The oboe is made from a tree that grows only in East Africa. Drawing upon a traditional Kurya tune, and aiming for a Western Jazz form, we collaborated to create this great piece that we called Tree of Tanzania. We were still rehearsing when this was filmed and the final version was recorded on CD and is even better. The Kurya instruments are Litungu (lyre), zeze (violin), kirongive (flute), maghorro (shakers), and lilandi ( a horn made from giant squash). The collaboration was made possible by Brenda's Global Connections grant from Meet the Composer (funded by the Ford Foundation) and The African Blackwood Conservation Project which lifts people out of poverty by having them replant and protect the blackwood trees (also known as mpingo, grenadilla, pau preto) from which oboes, clarinets, bagpipes, flutes, some recorders and some guitars are made.

As a kid, I enjoyed Cream ALOT, and had even heard Eric Clapton perform with John Mayall's Blues Breakers in 1968 (?) in Cleveland, but never had bougt their albums. A few years ago, finally bought all the Cream opi on CDs, and started to listen. 'Pressed Rat and Warthog' just simply blew me away; I stopped the CD, went to my music room, and started recording the above version! I worked virtually non-stop for about 3 days! It was INTENSE fun!!! That was in Spring of 2009. I start off with a single full hurdy-gurdy (two more join in for the final chorus), and eventually you hear clavichord, folk-guitar (modified to emulate a bandora!), four bass viols, 3 pardessus viols (that is it's pegbox on the video!), 3 soprano recorders, and organ. It was my intent to present a version as perhaps Oliver Cromwell might have heard it, if the broken consort (the band), down at the Swan & Lyre Tavern around the corner from St. Paul's, had come across a copy of the score (via time transport?) about 300 years prior to the Cream's release (give or take a ...

I Do Not Own! The Company Band is a Rock supergroup fronted by Neil Fallon of Clutch and Rev. James Rota of Fireball Ministry, with Jess Margera of CKY, Jason Diamond of Puny Human, and Dave Bone. The group was formed by James Rota, Dave Bone and Jason Diamond in 2006 as a side project when they had free time. After a show in 2006 where Fireball Ministry was supporting CKY, Rota approached Margera about playing drums with them. Jess agreed and the band made some instrumental tracks. Later, Fallon agreed to appear as a guest vocalist on one of the songs. Eventually Fallon became a full member of the group and the line-up was complete.
