I felt kind of embarrassed posting it but I also wanted to say thanks to guitartube.com for the great site they have. I finished recording the CD and now Marie has to do the design and layout that she is so brilliant at! On this CD I play popular classics like Bach's Air on a G-string, Pachelbel's "Canon in D", Albinoni's "Adagio, "Jesu, joy of mans desiring", Dowland, Galilei, Weiss and others. I hope you will like it when it is ready later this summer. I have, as a Swede, always been a fan of ABBA even though I am not a "POP-guy". But I respect ABBA as I do Beatles. Their music is eternal and will live for ever. This song is one of my favorites from them. It also expresses my own thoughts on music; I am so grateful that I can play and compose so that others want to listen to me and play themselves. What a privilege! Amazing. I made an arrangement of this years ago for 4 guitars and 4 recorders. I never got around to do a solo version until now. I hope you will like it. My Flip UltraHD has been giving me issues. The battery life is horrible and one of the two stereo mics keeps cutting out during recording witch turns out to be rather annoying. I've heard many others have similar issues so they seem to be fairly common problems. The Sony Bloggie Touch Mobile HD Snap camera is similar to the Flip UltraHD in that it's a small pocket video recorder with 8GB of built in memory but it has many advantages over the Flip UltraHD. First of all it has a non-fixed lens with auto focus so you can film close up objects with greater detail. It also has a wider lens so you can fit more objects or people in the frame. It records 1080p and 720p at 60FPS, neither of witch the Flip UltraHD can do. The touch screen is also much bigger than the screen on the Flip UltraHD. It has the same 8GB of internal storage yet it can record 4hrs of video at 720p/30FPS compared to only 2hrs on the Flip so it must have better video compression. The battery life is also much better and so far the microphone has shown no signs clipping or crackling. They also placed the microphone up top so when you're behind the camera talking it's just as loud and clear as when you're in front. I've looked at many pocket video recorders from Flip, JVC, Creative and Kodak. They almost all have fixed lenses with no auto-focus systems. It existed a split version of amplification, but these parts did not sound much better, but the price was invaluable! ☞ Have a look at the first "Liquid Crystal Display" of the world : The TC-K8B-Cassette Player introduced 'Liquid Crystal Peak Program Meter' with dB -~ - +5 dB !!! The peak-bars are first grey, overdriven bars are red, not shown on video ! The Cassette-Eject is not motor-supported yet ! The 'ESPRIT'-Line came some years later . ☞ TOP-OF-THE-LINE - Products are recognizable by the higher number in name ! The displays are protected by real-glass-covers ! Slim and company turn in a top-notch, spot-on performance that would have given some of the (then) current disco practitioners a run for their money. Recorded during the sessions for "ZOOM" at Track Recorders in Silver Spring, Maryland; and then left stillborn for nearly thirty years. I first heard this courtesy of Joe Lee at Joe's Record Paradise in Takoma Park, on a 12" white label test pressing. IRS Records were considering including it on the "ZOOM" album, then (because the song tracked for over six minutes) considered a possible 12" disco single to be released...but was shelved for reasons known only to them. Oh well...so what - who cares ? You have it now ...even though your probably far too old to enjoy it at this point ! 'Nova Nova!' & 'Angelus ad Virginem' 'News News!!!' & 'The Angel and the Virgin' - English Medieval Carols, Anon., 13th century. Arranged and performed by Daniel Mantey - Music All Sorts; hurdy-gurdy, soprano and alto recorders, & hand-bells, with Kenji Mantey and Ami Mantey - vocals. These are two VERY old Christmas Carols, two of the earliest, and both about the Annunciation; Angel Gabriel's visit to Mary. The first really is like a 'Hear-yee, hear-yee, read all about it' call. And that is Kenji calling out the first 'Nova novas.' I use a very simple ensemble as would have been likely used in the 13th Century, and certainly children would have joined in and sung these carols! (I have heard different rhythmic versions of the opening; this is mine.) The second is in slightly more confusing Old English, but can be figured out when you see the words (not sure if hearing them helps?). What a great tune! I think Chaucer has one of his characters singing this tune as he travels to Canterbury in one of his Tales? There is a polyphonic version, but could not track it down, so wrote my own extra part in the style (on the alto recorder after the sung verse). I have always (since I learned these pieces nearly 40 years ago!) played these two together, and I used to always do them on bag-pipes! The hurdy-gurdy is just right. This track is on my Winter CD, recorded about 3 years ago, when Kenji was 9 and Ami 11. Happy holidays!!!

Vox Vulgaris La Suite Meurtriere Vox Vulgaris is or was a Swedish group founded in the end of the 1990s, playing medieval music on instruments like bagpipes and percussion. Their musical dynamic is spanning from fast and loud dance tunes to much more subtle and improvisation-based, sometimes even minimalist, music. They neither want to perform the authentic medieval melodies in a purely "academic" way, nor turning into medievalist rock'n'roll kitsch. Instead, they mean that the only authentic way to approach this early music is in an improvising way, allowing for the musicians' own contemporary influences to shine through without taking over - like musicians have done in all times. October 24, 1985, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - Boy, does this make me feel old. Nothing shows the progress of technology better than looking at what was new and innovative a few years earlier. In this case, we're looking at the state of microtechnology in consumer products back in 1985. At the time I did this story, I was utterly amazed at how small and powerful handheld TVs, computers, disc players and other "tech toys" had become. Certainly this was the future -- and then the future came and turned 1985 technology into antiquated, quaint, museum relics. Is that a cassette player and Beta videotape I see? Did I actually own a lot of this stuff? Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal video collection.

Deciding upon one amongst the mess of digital multi-track recorders out there can be nearly impossible without knowing the minute differences between them. GW's Bob DiFazio has the inside scoop on the DP-02's strengths and weaknesses. As a side note, the DP-02 should not be confused with the DP-02CF, a similar recorder that does not have a CD burner built-in, and other limitations. Of the eighteen songs originally recorded that night, only "Graveyard of Losers" found it's way onto the B side of "The Meltdown" in April 1979. "The Shah is Gone" got it's share of immediate radio airplay, and notoriety, but was never commercially released. The session tape then languished in the storage can until producer Bob Greenlee resurrected it in 1987. Eleven of the tracks were released on an album entitled "Left for Dead" on Greenlee's King Snake Records label. Yet, it would be another quarter century until the session tape would merit a re release on compact disc. Only days ago, "Left for Dead" resurfaced on CD courtesy of Rip Bang Records. It includes two welcome bonus tracks; "The Shah is Gone", and "Space Ship Boogie". As fate would have it, four songs still remain unreleased, and as I see no prospects of the songs ever being included elsewhere.... I present them to you in this way.

The title "Vertical Man" actually came from a quotation from a book that Ringo's stepdaughter Francesca had won at school. The full quote was, Let's hear it for the vertical man, there's always so much praise for the horizontal one. Recorded at WHATINTHEWHATHE? studios, A & M studios and the Village Recorders LA And in England at The Mill, FPSHOT, Air London, Abbey Road, and Sarm Hook End Studios. Recording took place gradually from February 1997 to February 1998, and once again Ringo managed to get together some great guest performers, who are listed in the track list detail below. Although the final mixing was done on 19th February, Tom Petty had to re-record his vocal part for "Drift Away". This vocal was actually put on tape at Abbey Road on 2nd May, whilst Tom was singing in LA, with the recording sent down an ISDN line. As well as the 13 tracks issued below, four others were recorded which were planned for single B-sides : "Sometimes", "Mr. Doubleitup", "Everyday", and "Good News". Even though Ringo carries out a hectic promotion schedule, the CD fails to chart (actually reaching no.85 on it's first week of release) and sells barely over 2000 copies in the UK Mercury even pull the plug on the planned single release, which was to be "La De Da", even though the video was included on the "Chart Show" on 4th July. In 1970 Tutti Camarata produced an album "Tutti's Trombones" intended to exploit to the utmost the "great unexplored possibilities of the trombone". Picking some of the finest session and jazz trombone players in the United States the album became (at least for my generation) the gold standard of trombone playing and an iconic recording. Recorded at Camarata's own Sunset Sound Recorders studio in Hollywood, California he produced, arranged and conducted all the tracks and utilised state of the art recording equipment to achieve an absolutely superb landmark album. Track 11 was a number specially written by Camarata to showcase the talent of the group and is simply entitled "Tuttis Trombones". It features in order: Frank Rosolino (1.56); Herbie Harper (2.15); Hoyt Bohannon (2.33); Gil Falco (2.51); Dick Nash (3.09). The bass solo is by Red Mitchell and drums by Irv Cottler The album was re-mastered and re-released on CD in 1983 by Bainbridge Entertainment Co. (from which this recording is taken) based in Van Nuys, California. No copyright is claimed for this recording and no violation of ownership intended. The original LP is really difficult to find but I believe there are a few copies of the 1983 CD still available. Try to get one as the quality is superb and you'll never tire of listening to it!
